We don’t want to forget our history but our name
change will reflect better what we do. AbleLiving Services’ mission is
to enhance the quality of life of adults with disabilities so they can
experience life similar to others in their community.
Please Note: (This web site is currently being reconstructed
and updated and will reflect the new name in the future) We embrace the independent living model whereby clients
are expected to make their own decisions and direct the extent and
method of assistance provided by our staff. We have been serving our community for over thirty years and
currently provide supportive housing and a variety of services for
adults with disabilities who reside in Hamilton, Binbrook, Stoney
Creek, Burlington and Mississauga. Our roots stem from the Hamilton
Cerebral Palsy Parent Council, but we have grown substantially over the
past three decades to help individuals not only with cerebral palsy but
with any disability, which may include muscular dystrophy, arthritis,
multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, developmental delay, brain
injury, spina bifida, visual impairment, etc. Our clients currently number about 560 with many more on a waiting
list. In addition to our seven housing projects, some of which offer
short-term rental units, Participation House also provides outreach
services in clients’ homes, including both attendant and homemaking
services. Participation House is a non-profit organization and registered
charity. While funding from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long
Term Care supplies the bulk of our funding, we rely on donations and
fundraising to provide additional resources and assets to develop new
initiatives and meet the growing need. Thanks to all friends of
Participation House who have given their generous support. Management at Participation House would also like to thank our
Board of Directors, our caring staff as well as the many dedicated
volunteers, all of whom give their time, effort and talents to make
our community an inclusive one.
